I am a photographer based in Noblesville and specialize in Wedding Photography,
Senior, Family, and large groups Portraits. Special Events and Corporate and little tots Photography.
I absolutely LOVE photographing people. My portraiture specialties include High School Senior Portraits (See the ‘Seniors’ menu at the top of the page) & small business headshots.
But please don’t confine me to those alone… I hate boundaries and LOVE photography! My photographic coverage is not limited. INVESTMENTS
Digital Negatives are a fairly new word in the world of photography and I have lots of clients ask questions regarding digital negatives. We include digital proofs in all of our wedding packages and we also make them available to portrait clients. However, many people still have a lot of misconceptions about what digital negatives are and what they can do with them. I want to explain more clearly the difference between digital negatives, digital proofs and edited images–hopefully the following information will be helpful.
What are digital negatives?
Digital negatives are what come straight out of the camera–they are similar to film negatives. They are unedited, easy to store, with lots of potential. These files have had no editing, no retouching, no resizing. They are the simplest form of digital, if you know how to use them they can become a work of art. Digital negatives are NOT the images you see in our portfolio or on our blog. The photos there have received hours of editing.
What are digital proofs that come with wedding packages?
Digital proofs have received the first round of editing including adjusting contrast, white balance, changing color hues. This editing makes the image ready for the proofing gallery. This is also the image you will receive with your digital proofs for all wedding packages.
Why do people want their digital proofs?
We are in a digital age and people like “having” their pictures. Many brides and grooms want these files because they feel better about having a digital copy of all of their wedding images, or because they want to print the photos off themselves. Many portrait clients want these images to share on Facebook, MySpace, or a personal website. You are welcome to do whatever you please with your proofs, as long as it falls under the limited copyright release.
When I purchase digital proofs, does that mean I own the copyright?
Federal law dictates that copyright ownership cannot be sold to any person, for any price. Darlynn Portraits always has the copyright to every image we take. However, when you purchase the digital proofs, you will receive the images on a dvd and a limited copyright release form that will give you permission to use the images for certain purposes. Some of these may include making prints or posting them on Facebook. The release is very specific to the person who purchased the digital proofs. It cannot be duplicated for another person’s use.
What can’t I do with digital proofs?
You can never sell your copyright release to anyone else. You can’t give your photos to someone else and tell them to print the images. Only the bride and groom have rights to print or the portrait session which purchased the digital proofs. You also cannot make significant changes to the images. You cannot sell the DVDs or prints of the images to your friends and relatives. Darlynn Portraits is the only party authorized to sell or distribute the images.
Why are your photos so expensive?
The editing process that every image goes through before we print can take hours, and is very skilled work, so we charge accordingly for this service. This is also why there is such a huge price difference between taking a digital proof to your local neighborhood one-hour photo and getting a 5×7 for $.50 or purchasing one from us for $30. At the one-hour photo location, you are paying for lower quality paper and printing on equipment that takes only a few seconds to print it. Your images are not calibrated to these printers and therefore whatever color you get–is what you get. When you purchase from Darlynn Portraits directly, you are getting an image printed by a professional printing lab on high-quality photographic paper and whatever time we use to adjust and edit our images. Editing images include color correction, adjusting contrast, skin filters, erasing distracting backgrounds, adding vignettes, changing images to black & white, sepia or other special effects. This requires expensive computer software and hardware and lots of time (about 15-30 minute per image). We also calibrate our computers to the specific printer that our lab is using to make sure our color is excellent.
What exactly does “editing” a photo involve?
This is a big process and it would be good to show you pictures to explain the amount of work involved in editing. There are two rounds of editing. The first round produces the digital proofs, the second round produces the edited picture ready for printing.
The first round includes color correction, white balance, increasing contrast, cropping for distractions and other general edits
The second round includes removing pimples, applying skin filters, adding special effects, erasing distracting elements to the picture, etc.

Photography starts 45min before the ceremony and continues throughout the majority of the wedding reception, most packages till last event. We will follow your wedding and reception exactly as you planed it. We never ask you to change the order of your wedding day events.

I try my hardest to offer individuals flexible coverage and pricing to make
your investment also fit your needs and your budget.
I generally recommend 6 – 7 hours to cover a wedding. Typically, I will show up for some ‘getting-ready’ coverage and stay to capture the day until just after cutting the cake to cover part of the reception (dancing photos – fun!).
We offer a discount for weekday weddings (all year round) and for weekends during the off peak months of November to March.
A non-refundable 25% booking fee is required to secure the date.
My joy and fulfillment at the end of the day, as a photographer, is to hand over a completed album of photographs that I know will be one of the most important and cherished items in your home. Your photographs represent an incredibly passionate time of love and emotion. You, your children and grandchildren will cherish them forever.
That is why I do what I do. That is why I love what I do.
It is so important that you choose a photographer that suits your style and your needs. It is also important that you take the time to contemplate exactly what you need and want from your photographer and your wedding photography package. Extra prints can always be ordered and reordered in the future, but coverage cannot. There is nothing worse than regretting not having enough photographic coverage for a day that only happens once in a lifetime. Be sure to thoroughly compare photographers and also be sure to ask yourself which moments are truly important to you, and essential for coverage.
Many couples find their photographs to be the most important investment of their wedding. Although the flowers of your bouquet will expire, these images will capture the colors of the petals and the tear in your father’s eye… forever. These photos will last as a window for you, your children and your grandchildren to view this moment for years and lifetimes to come. Your wedding photos should capture the feeling of your wedding day as well as portray the love you feel for each other as a couple and as individuals.
It’s no question… this is absolutely one of the most important and romantically significant days of your life. Keep this in mind as you search for the photographer who you will trust to capture this moment forever.
